Wanda Barton Match Play Tournament Winner

The two finalists, Wanda Barton and Sue Brack, teed off early Friday morning, July 22, at Kingswood Golf Course. Wanda got off to a great start with birdies on two of the first four holes, and took an early 3-0 lead. Sue got her first hole on the Par-4 Fifth, but Wanda took the first side 4-1 and it looked like it was going to be a short match.
By the 11th hole, however, Sue found her stride and took three of the next four holes to pull within one hole of a tie with a win on number 13. The next hole was a push, however, and with pars on 16 and 17, Wanda took the match 3/1.
It was a great round for both golfers. Wanda fired a 76, just 5 over par. Sue, with an 18 handicap, shot an 84.
Gail Kidd “caddied” for Wanda, driving the golf cart and tending the flag. The spectators included Linda Roberts, Sassy Weber (who got out of a sick bed to cheer the two contestants), Stephanie Kappel, Barbara Westfall, and Kathy Zumbro.
