John Fogerty live at the Tonight Show 2006

By Rick Schwartz

John Fogerty performed live, outdoors at the Tonight Show studios in Burbank, California on June 7th 2006 promoting his new The Long Road Home compilation. The performance aired on NBC that night. He has performed for Jay and the Tonight Show before, but this was the first and only time on their outdoor stage. Our tickets were only for the outdoor performance, and we were not allowed inside the studio. The audience inside the studio did come out for the performance, but since we were there first, we had a much better view.

Jay introduced John, held up the CD for The Long Road Home. John's band consisted of the usual musicians at the time: George Hawkins Jr. on Bass, Bob Britt on Guitar, Billy Burnette on Guitar and, of course, Kenny Aronoff on Drums. John performed two numbers, although only one made it on the air. His first number was a medley of his hits ("Rockin' All Over The World," "Fortunate Son" and "Travelin' Band"), and the 2nd was was a fantastic version of "Keep On Chooglin'," complete with guitar solo intro and harmonica solo. Unfortunately, "Chooglin'" was not aired, but it was streamed on NBC.com for a few months, and it has been captured.
