Where the River Flows

Background

"Where the River Flows" is an album track on John Fogerty, the first LP he released after signing with Asylum Records. The gospel-influenced song was recorded at Wally Heider Recording in San Francisco and engineered by David Coffin. Fogerty plays all the instruments by himself.

In the radio interview right after the release of the album, John Fogerty denied that the story on "Where the River Flows" happened to him. "I saw this picture of this cat with dogs chasing him and he's going across this swamp, kind of whole little scenario, you know. The whole thing happened like a sort of dream sequence and I tried to write a song about what that was about, but it kind of unfolded right in front of my eyes", told Fogerty (KSAN, San Francisco, October 18th, 1975).

Collector's notes

Live versions

John Fogerty has never performed the song live in concert.

Critical reception

"A very gospel-influenced song, somewhat reminiscent of some of The Blue Ridge Rangers. The vocals are a standout as usual, and the rhythm is very moving and enjoyable. My only complaint is that it's too short! The Man could probably have written a few more verses or included an instrumental break in the middle." -Matt Loewen

"The relaxing gospel/country rhythm with appropriate vocal harmonies make me want to spend a day relaxing,... by listening to some John Fogerty music!" -Glenn J. Wiener

Fans' views

"Urkujen tukemassa simppelin hienossa biisissa kaikki on kohdallaan."
