Oh, Pretty Woman

Background

The first night of the 25th Anniversary of Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York on October 29th, 2009, was closed with John Fogerty, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band who performed Roy Orbison's number one hit from the year 1964 "Oh, Pretty Woman". The concerts of the both nights were released on CD and DVD next year.  The performances were also aired in the USA by the HBO.

Bruce Springsteen and Roy Orbison also performed the song at Rock And Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 1987. John Fogerty wandered around on the stage but didn't sing or play any instrument.

Trivia

Fogerty, Springsteen and the E Street Band took the stage after midnight. The correct date of the performances would be October 30th, to be exact.

Additional live versions

John Fogerty added "Oh, Pretty Woman" to his live repertoire after the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame mega concert at Madison Square Garden. He performed the song twice in fall 2009 (at Beacon Theatre in New York on November 24th and New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark next day) and regularly in 2010-2014. Soundboard recordings from the autumn 2013 and spring 2014 concerts were officially made available by files.

Fogerty also delivered the song in Sturgis, South Dakota, on August 11th, 2011, and in his birthday concert at El Rey in Los Angeles on May 28th, 2013. Both concerts were broadcast live by AXS-TV in the USA.  The version he performed at Bonnaroo Festival on June 13th, 2010, was streamed over the Internet.

"Oh, Pretty Woman" was also added to the set list in the Cosmo's Factory and Green River album concerts Fogerty played at Beacon Theatre, New York, on November 17th and 18th, 2011 Both shows were aired live by the Sirius XM satellite radio in the USA.

Critical reception

"Then Fogerty drags the E Street Band into the bayou for "Fortunate Son" and "Proud Mary," and sings close harmonies on a passionate "Oh, Pretty Woman" with Springsteen — in tribute to their mutual hero Roy Orbison, the two men each finding unexpected purity in their rough voices." -David Fricke and Brian Hiatt, The Rolling Stone, November 26th, 2009.
