Hoodoo Man

Background

"Hoodoo Man" was an album track on Hoodoo, an unreleased solo album of John Fogerty that was due to come out in 1976. The rocker was written, produced and arranged by John Fogerty and engineered by Russ Gary and David Coffin.  Fogerty also played all the instruments by himself. Recorded at Wally Heider studios in San Francisco, the album was the last collaboration between Fogerty and Gary.

Critical reception

"---a killer of a rocker - loud, lots of guitar, and John is belting out his mysterious magic lyrics in his familiar gutsy way - you can tell how much he got into singing this one! When he screams out "I'm a hoodoo voodoo magic man!", you can almost believe him......" -Mary P., Who'll Stop the Rain, Winter 1983.

"I like this! The side kicks off with a "Polk Salad Annie" riff and the vocals hark back to Fogerty's earliest Little Richard cops makin' you really wanna hear more of this sound." -Billy Miller, The Kicks, New York, Issue 3, Summer 1984.

"A rocking tune sung in the best Fogerty style. With strong vocals and tight guitar solo's, this is one of the man's best. The narrator is a strange man who's 'got the devil by the horns'..." -Wiebo de Wit, The CCR-Tribute, 1996
