Top 41 of Creedence Clearwater Revival (2008)

Here're the results of the best Creedence Clearwater Revival. The survey was held in the Internet in 2008. The rules were exactly the same as in the previous survey in 1995.

In parenthesis=position in the 1995 survey.

1. (2.) Have You Ever Seen the Rain

2. (6.) Born on the Bayou

3. (4.) Green River

  • Possibly the greatest guitar riff in rock'nroll with some brilliant, evocative lyrics and a perfect JF vocal.

  • Defines the sound and legacy of the band.

  • "If you get lost, come on home to Green River." Yeah!

  • Reminds me of my childhood. Had ropes hanging from trees.

  • Best guitar riff in rock'n'roll, brillaint lyrics.

  • Imagery, timeless, there's nuttin' like it on the radio. And the promise of "you can always come home."

  • Classic , timeless.. as fresh today as ever! Americana personified!

  • It's John's favorite song at least that's what Julie told my wife.

  • A great southern rock song with great imagery and feeling.

  • The imagery and again that unique Fogerty sound. We can all escape to a place like this if not for real, at leaat in our mind.

  • The vision and the feeling it gives. Happy and carefree. Paints a wonderful picture with the lyrics.

4. (1.) Fortunate Son

  • It seriously rocks and the message is very true then and now.

  • Very powerful song. It has a great rhythm, excellent lyrics but above all that... the guitars are just brilliant, just like John's voice.

  • This song told it like it was (is).

  • Makes a powerfull statement.

  • Reminds me of my husband who served in Viet Nam.

  • Still a powerful statement decades after it was written.

  • Best rock and roll protest song that says it all and is still (sadly to say) as true today as when it was written.

  • Ballsy class politics with another killer riff and tremendous vocal.

  • 2nd best vocals of his songs. Love the nostalgic pull this song creates.

  • Cause it's a driving song about all the shit in this world. About 10% got it all and the rest?

5. (7.) Proud Mary

  • It's an all-time classic. It's to wedding receptions as "Happy Birthday to You" is to birthday parties!

  • Blows me away. It`s live (sorry) longer then John and me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perhaps the quinesential song of American rock and roll. On the same plateau as Johnny B. Goode.

  • Same thing can be said for most of Fogerty`s songs. Good lyrics, it pulls you along, great guitar work, very catchy.

  • Make me want to move to the river.

=6. (3.) Bad Moon Rising

  • Just my all time favorite. Definitely reflecting my life for the pass year!!

  • Song came out in 1969 the same year they landed on the moon what else.

  • Perfect example of 50's rock tradition.

  • Catchy, timeless.

  • Great melody. Excellent rhythm.

  • The one that got me hooked. Best intro to any song ever...again very simple.

  • I have simply loved this song since John first recorded it, it tells a story.

  • Instantly recognizable, spooky, classic Fogerty/Creedence.

  • The first CCR (Fogerty´s) song I learned to play (gtr).

  • Kicks some ass.

  • "There's a bathroom on the right!"

  • A timeless reminder that, no matter how good things are going in life, there are always ominous signs that times can get rough at any time.

=6. (13.) Up Around The Bend

  • I have always thought this was a great song. Great lyrics "come on the risin' wind, we're going up around the bend.......Yaaaaaa" and great composition. The guitars in this song just blow me away. I can listen to it over and over.

  • Maybe it's not fair to mention absolutely 3 best songs only, but I can't find more driving rock'n'roll song in the world, can somebody?

  • The first CCR song I have ever heard!

  • Opening riff just grabs you.

  • Simply because to me it all started with this song. This was my first single ever and it still gives me the chills. It may not be CCR's/JCF's best work ever, but it's attached to so many memories and that is why to me it'll always be very special.

  • Absolute joy from start to finish.

  • A fast, fun, furious song that is escapism at its best.

  • Lifts the spirits. Love the tempo and lyrics. This song is good medicine!

  • This is the "anti-message" of Bad Moon Rising; a song of hope that there's good things that can happen around every corner.

  • Unique but typical Fogerty....another great intro.

  • The best guitar intro... it´s so Fogerty too, it´s so Fogerty.....John Fogerty.

8. (8.) Who'll Stop The Rain

  • The sound and the lyrics fit perfectly.

  • Touching and beatiful folk type song.

  • John's voice.

9. (=22.) Ramble Tamble

  • A perfect timeless rocksong, my favorite on the very best ccr album ever cosmos factory.

  • It is better than smoking a big joint. The rythym, the howling guitar, the beat, the lyrics. This song has it all.

  • The instrumental part with the tempo-changes in this song is made in heaven; the best there is. Period. (And it was the brilliant centerpiece of The-Long-Road-Home-tour this year. It's a shame it's not on the DVD).

  • Ramble Tamble is getting bigger and better every time you hear it!

  • Most moving fabulous guitar work.. Such a treat to hear it LIVE surprisingly on my Birthday June, 29th in London at the Hammersmith Apollo.

  • "Actors in the White House."

10. (5.) Lodi

  • It's a great story, with the power of the simplicity that I like very much.

  • Best "singalong" song CCR ever made. The flipside of Bad Moon Rising was not forgotten, Lodi, seems to be more popular than the A-side.

  • Fantastic story. The kind of song that everyone wants to write

11. (29.) Keep On Chooglin'

  • This song just has everything a great rock 'n roll song needs. Great guitar solo's, a haunting mouth organ, everything just fits. Listening to KOC one doesn't need drugs to get high.

  • Fantastic song and a classic rock song for the stage.

  • In 1969 I heard KOC the first time. It is not a typical CCR song.

  • That are reasons enough. And now, 2005/2006, JF plays KOC live.

12. (25.) It Came Out Of The Sky

  • Only John Fogerty could write a 2.5 minute happy pop song about a spaceship crash landing on Earth and the resulting scramble claiming ownership!

  • Magnificant drive.

13. (16.) Long As I Can See The Light

  • Tremendous vocals. Maybe his best This song drips with soul.

  • I love the lyrics and the bluesy arrangement John does now when he does it live.

  • Maybe the best vocals he's ever done.

14. (=10.) Down On The Corner

  • The song makes me feel happy whenever I hear it

  • Wonderful music brilliant vocal, this song has everything.

  • Has that time's past feeling to it.

15. (=10.) I Heard It Through The Grapevine 8pts.

  • Seems to just jam forever. I love it.

  • I 'm a sucker for an extended jam and this is one of the best ever.

  • 11.05 minutes, and not one second is wasted!

  • Great soul

15. (=29.) I Wish I Could Hide Away

  • The voice from John

  • Sometimes I wish I could "hideaway". There are so many friendly and lovely people who live so far away (not down on the corner). Sometimes I wish to be there or with them.

15. (9.) Someday Never Comes

  • This song is very true, almost like it was John giving us some biography?

  • You can feel his sorrow.

18. (14.) Suzie Q

19. (15.) Lookin' Out My Back Door

  • Best ever.Great memorise of my youth.

20. (35.) Dont Look Now

  • I missed this as a 7" single.

  • As Ellen Willis said this song is less 'change the World' than 'you and me on a bad day'. Creedence do country with the best...

20. (21.) I Put A Spell On You

  • Everything Fogerty is BEST at.. Powerful emotion, voice, amazing guitar.and as another fan said "hex appeal"!

20. (12.) Travelin' Band

20. (=22.) Wrote A Song For Everyone

  • Lyrics second to none

26. (26.) Pagan Baby

26. (17.) Run Trough The Jungle

28. (=42.) Bootleg

28. (19.) Effigy

  • John's version of this outdoes the famous Ray Charles cut, full of emotion

  • Puts me in the mood of 1970.

28. (=27.) Ninety-Nine And A Half

  • Great cover of a great song. Fogerty's growl in this song is amazing.

33. (-) Porterville

33. (-) Take It Like A Friend

33. (=27.) Walk On The Water

  • I can't explain what it is, but this song really does something to me. In my opinion it is a very underrated piece of art, just like 'Someday never comes', although of course it's not fair to compare these two songs with each other.
