Great Big Man in Red

Background

"Great Big Man in Red" is a track on the Santa's Rockin' Christmas album launched by Australian children's music group The Wiggles in autumn 2004. It features John Fogerty as a guest artist. He also appears on the song's video version.

The Wiggles had recorded with several Australian artists. In early 2000's the band was looking for American performers to do the same. Fogerty took his baby daughter to a Wiggles show in Los Angeles, and the next thing he knew, he was performing in their Christmas record. Fogerty was right into The Wiggles, declaring them "The Beatles for the Kids (Interview with The Wiggles manager Paul Field, unknown newspaper and date; Rod Harmon, Interview with John Fogerty, Sarasota Herald-Tribune, June 16th, 2005).

Fogerty's contribution on the record is a natural follow-up for his family album Deja Vu All Over Again which was also released in fall 2004. One of the songs on Deja Vu, "I Will Walk With You", is an ode for Fogerty's baby daughter and another track,"Wicked Old Witch", was inspired by father-daughter sessions with the Wizard of Oz DVD.

Recording session

John Fogerty recorded his parts with The Wiggles manager Paul Field while the rest of the band was filming a promotional footage for the Disney Channel in Los Angeles. The recording session took place during the Deja Vu All Over Again sessions (Interview with The Wiggles manager Paul Field, 2004).
