Between the Lines

Background

"Between the Lines" was an album track on Hoodoo, an unreleased solo album of John Fogerty that was due to come out in 1976. The song was written, produced and arranged by John Fogerty and engineered by Russ Gary and David Coffin.  Fogerty also played all the instruments by himself. Recorded at Wally Heider studios in San Francisco, the album was the last collaboration between Fogerty and Gary.

Critical reception

"---trying to describe it, I can't help but resort to saying 'Dylan-esque', because of the phrasing and organ work. It seems a pretty unusual  musical style for John, and it's a bit of a surprise at first, but the melody grabs you straight away and the lyrics are intriguing!" -Mary P., Who'll Stop the Rain, Winter 1983.

"A Pendulum-style slow one spotlighting some classic Fogerty guitar licks -- easily one of Hoodoo's best cuts." -Billy Miller, The Kicks, New York, Issue 3, Summer 1984.

"Midtempo, great melody and good lyrics make this a personal favorite of mine. This one is definitely up there with other Fogerty classics..." -Wiebo de Wit, The CCR-Tribute, 1996
