Story by Rick Lewis

My most enduring memories of this conceret are John Fogerty's blue suit, his spectacular guitar work and "Heard it Through The Grapevine", played as the last oncore.

I was 15 at the time and this was my first big out doot concert (having just missed out on Led Zep the previous year due to a car break down). Western Springs will hold over 70,000 on a good day (David Bowie, U2 and one or two others will attest to that). For CCR I think about 20,000 turned up.

This was of course in the days of simpler stage sets and light shows, when a concert stood or fell on the quality of the music. And CCR's was great. They remained true to their sound and of course all the classics where played.

I guess the concert remains dear to my heart because it was my first big outdoor show, and also because of the tremendous legacy JF and the lads left us. People still show an interest when I say "I was there". A reverence usually reserved for those who attended the early Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd or The Who concerts.

I guess you had to be there.
