Kickin' Asphalt

Background

"Kickin' Asphalt" is an opening track on Duane Eddy's self-titled collaboration album launched on June 23rd, 1987. The instrumental song features John Fogerty, Steve Cropper, James Burton and Duane Eddy on guitar.

Duane Eddy had been the hero of John Fogerty since Eddy's first single "Movin' 'n' Groovin" in 1958. Fogerty wrote the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction speech for Eddy in 1994 (John Fogerty, Fortunate Son, 2015).

The second collaboration of the two took place at Rhyman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 5th, 2000, when Fogerty and Eddy performed "3.30 Blues" and "Hard Times" together. The show was aired in the USA.

Critical reception

"Duane Eddy begins inausspiciosly with "Kickin' Asphalt", a basic boogie riff passed politely around from Eddy to James Burton, John Fogerty and Steve Cropper without incendiary effect." -Andy Schwartz, The SPIN, September 1987.
