Alus

The Alus is the name given to an ancient interstellar monolith that rises above the cultural center of the planet Favos IV. Recently, it was discovered that the Alus is actually the remains of a crashed spacecraft from some unknown world. It is nearly 100 yards wide, and the oldest ancient landmark in Favosian civilization. It's cylindrical hull is made of a trititanium alloy, though its exact composition is unknown. The Alus is also the housing for an immense extraterrestrial asteroid deflector, similar to the Preservers obelisk. The Favosians call it their "Automated Proximity Defense." This asteroid defense has protected the Favosian people for generations. As a result, they see the Alus itself as a sacred object and venerate it as such. In 2268, a group of Favosians attempted to manipulate the asteroid deflector for political gain.
