Philip Zarboza

Phillip Zarboza was a decorated officer in the Federation Starfleet, who rose to the rank of Commander in the course of his service through the mid-23rd century. History:

Zarboza's last duty was as one-time First officer and adjutant to Fleet Captain Garth of Izar, who considered him a close friend. Philip's personal allegiance to Captain Garth was unquestionable, which at times even took precedence over Starfleet General Orders. Following the accident that left Garth badly maimed, Cdr. Zarboza served as Garth's personal aide while Garth convalesced on Antos IV. At that time, Zarboza was Garth's only link to Starfleet and the outside world. The natives of Antos nursed Garth back to health; teaching him their technique of cellular metamorphosis to repair his mangled body. It is believed that at this time Zarboza himself acquired these same skills. In spite of the fact that cellular metamorphosis caused Garth to lose grasp of his own sanity, it doesn't appear to have affected Zarboza at all (the extent of which, if any, is still unknown). In gratitude to the natives of Antos, Garth "offered them the galaxy" – an offer they refused. Captain Garth's diseased mind found such offense in Antos' rejection that he ordered his forces to annihilate the entire species. The majority of his Starfleet subordinates refused this order. However, a select few of Garth's senior staff remained loyal and stood by their captain, including Cdr. Zarboza. As a result, Garth's ship and personal allies were taken by force. Garth was committed to the Elba II asylum for the criminally insane, and his remaining cohorts were all court-martialed. . .except one. Zarboza somehow managed to escape Starfleet custody; bringing his wife and ten children along with him into space.

Criminal Career:

It is at this point Zarboza took on a life of piracy and illegal arms dealing while living under many aliases.

This rather abrupt lifestyle change was not as much a result of desperation as it may have been more a predisposition. According to interviews with his youngest son Jeremiah, Philip Zarboza's long-held philosophy was that the concept of Starfleet as a peacekeeping entity, "was a complete joke." He views Starfleet as merely a "training ground," and space itself is the final frontier of social Darwinism; only fit for a new breed of 23rd century Alexander or Napoleon.

For years, Zarboza was captain of the Somali Princess. He used this vessel as his mobile base-of-operations until 2268, when his crew hijacked the Federation shuttle carrier USS Ganymede.

Since that incident, Captain Zarboza has been encountered attempting a proxy take-over of the USS Bretagne and Starbase 6, through the use of android dopplegangers.
