Jeremiah Peterson

Personal History:

Mr. Peterson was born "Jeremiah Zarboza" and is the youngest of 10 children (7 brothers and 2 sisters). While growing up, his father Phillip was a career smuggler and black marketeer; living under many aliases. At one point Philip was able to obtain his own starship, and began a successful illegal weapons shipping operation when Jeremiah was just 2 years old.

Eventually, the entire family packed up their belongings and went into space permanently. Their starship was now their home and their livelihood. By the time young Jeremiah was 12, he already knew most of the major star systems in the Alpha Quadrant. At that same age, his mother started teaching him flight control operations and how to tactically evade space patrols.

Jeremiah's older brothers taught him general ship maintenance, as well as various lethal forms of hand-to-hand combat. However, Jeremiah could not bear the thought of killing anyone; having already developed a nagging sense of conscience.

By the time Jeremiah was 16, he had seen enough of his dad’s cold-blooded "business negotiations" to realize that this kind of life was wrong. He wanted to be something better, but could not see any way out of the family trade.

One day when Jeremiah was 18, he was sitting in a spaceport tavern watching a couple of Starfleet personnel enjoying their shore leave and playing Dom-jot. They were accosted by a pair of Nausicaans, and a fight broke out.

Jeremiah knew the Federation crewmen were too outclassed, and that they would be dead in a matter of minutes, so he jumped in and helped even the odds. The Nausicaans were quickly beaten. Word got back to the Starfleet officer-in-charge, who offered Jeremiah a chance at getting into Starfleet Academy. Seizing the opportunity in front of him, Jeremiah erased all traces of his past identity, "dropped off the grid," and changed his last name to Peterson.

Of course, Jeremiah had a hard time adjusting to the discipline of Academy life, but he still considered it a fair alternative to the cutthroat lifestyle that he had while living with his family. Because of his previous starship experience, he was able to graduate in less time than a normal cadet, and with honors to show for it.

Mr. Peterson's first assignment was as a security officer/relief helmsman aboard the USS Excalibur, where he served in good standing until early 2268.

Aboard the USS Bretagne:

When Lt. Peterson was assigned to flight control of the starship Bretagne, he gave his fellow crewmen the impression that he was a little too relaxed at the helm.
