Caesar Velez

Ensign Caesar Velez was a 23rd century Starfleet security officer assigned to the USS Bretagne in 2268. He died while serving on a landing party that was exploring an Earth of an alternate timeline.Ensign Velez was from Colombia, and became an accomplished boxer while a Starfleet cadet. For a brief period of time he dropped out and made a career in the ring; eventually winning the Columbian Middleweight title. However, he found a life in boxing rather short-sighted, and decided to finish up where he left off at the Academy. After graduating, he briefly served aboard the USS Artemis and then later on the USS Bretagne.

Aboard the USS Bretagne:

Velez was regarded by his crewmates as a highly-confident individual, and at times cocky and egotistical. Security Chief Ch'od once noted, "He is a winner, and that feeds his ego, but he is one hell of a security officer."

During the USS Bretagne's first official training mission in 2268, Ensign Velez was the first to find Commodore Wesley collapsed in his quarters (ST:P1 "Shakedown").

Background:

While Velez's was not the first on-screen "death" of the series, his popularity with the audience made it especially poignant.
