ファルシゲルフタマタクワガタ。
1845年、ロンドン・リンネ学会の特別会員であったイギリスの昆虫学者フレデリック・ウィリアム・ホウプ（Frederick William Hope, 1797.1.3-1862.4.15）がミヤマクワガタ属フタマタクワガタ亜属の Lucanus (Hexarthrius) falciger として記載した。

タイプ標本はジャワ島で採取。メスは未検。
「falciger」はラテン語で「大鎌を持つ者の」の意。
1847年、ドイツの昆虫学者ヘルマン・ブルマイスター博士（Dr.med.u.Phil. Hermann Burmeister, 1807.1.15-1892.5.2）は自ら記載したエダツノクワガタ属 *¹ のリーノケロース種のシノニムであるとして Cladognathus rhinoceros (Olivier, 1789) とした。

1852年12月22日、フランスの昆虫学者ルイ・ジェローム・ライヒェ（Louis Jérôme Reiche, 1799.12.20-1890.5.16）がフタマタクワガタ属の一種、Hexarthrius falciger (Hope, 1845) とした。命名者と記載年が括弧書きであるのは、属の変更の為。
