Anecdotes

Poker

Marc, Mehr, Brian, and Span arrived at Dave's apartment on Friday evening. As we did when Mehr hosted in Harrisburg, we decided to split the events up a little and do one on Friday night. We chose poker, which wound up being a four-hour long game that ended well after midnight.

Breakfast

The Deluxe Town Diner is one of the best diners in the Boston area. The five of us sat down to breakfast and discussed the day to come.

Softball

Marc at the bat.

Instead of having a formal competition, we just did batting practice. The batters rotated as did the pitchers and the outfielders. Everyone got a chance to try to hit one out of Arsenal Park. Mehr almost did a couple of times, reaching the bottom of the hill towards the back of the park.

Volleyball

In the weeks leading up to MBBB13, Dave tried and tried to find a public volleyball court near Watertown, even going so far as to post on a little-frequented "volleyball in Boston" message board. His understanding was that Arsenal Park had a few courts. But when we got there that day, there were none. As a substitute, we got the volleyball out, formed a circle, and just started hitting it around like a game of hackey sack. It wasn't as competitive, but it was still fun.

Lunch

Since Arsenal Mall is next to Arsenal Park and it has a food court, we decided it would be a good location for lunch. Although the food court is pretty small, it has some good options. Brian's order at the Mexican restaurant took forever -- Mehr speculated they were out back killing the cow. After lunch, we decided to hang out a little in the mall and enjoy the A/C. We wound up sitting across from a storefront that invites people in to do surveys. Although they pleaded with us to take a survey, we decided not to. Instead, we chuckled to ourselves as their pleas to other people walking through the mall fell on deaf ears.

Candlepin Bowling

Span bowling (lefty!).

Bowling is an MBBB tradition and Dave wanted to mix it up with a New England variation on the game: candlepin bowling. The guys had a great time learning the new game amidst all its frustrations. After bowling, we hit the arcade for a few games including air hockey.

Knockout

With the sun beating down on us, we headed to a park in Belmont to play knockout. The game was marred a little by the fact that one of the basketballs kept getting stuck in the net. But otherwise we had a good time. Again, there was no formal competition -- we just played a couple of games.

Dinner

After a long day of outdoor activities, we ordered dinner from Celebrity Pizza and brought it back to Dave's house to eat.

Scattergories

We finished the day with a game of Scattergories. The five of us did our best to come up with US Presidents, things in outerspace, girl's names, and words of all other types starting with a random letter. It was a fun end to another successful MBBB.
