Connecting android 3.0 and up via WIFI

Using the MTP protocol to connect your Android 3.0 + device to ubuntu is possible, though not fast and not easy. There are of course other ways of making a connection. The one I'm going to explain is using WIFI on the same network.

Start your tablet or phone and launch google Play. Search for "Software data cable" and install.

Start the program and select "sync PC"

Select "settings" and enter a username and password

You might change other parameters as well. (Lock Acces in ROOT gives you more power over where you can read and write.)

press "back"

press "start service"

Now we're heading to Ubuntu.

Start Nautilus and press

F3 to open a second panel

CTRL L (Go To / Location)

and enter the location you can read on your tablet of phone.

Nautilus should connect now and ask for your credentials. Just give your password and account name you just entered on the tablet and you're in.

Now you can copy from and to your tablet.

On my Nexus 7 I get speeds of about 2.9 Mb / sec
