GESS FATHERS@SCHOOL ACTIVITY Dialogue in the Dark on 21 Oct 2017
What has Psy's Gangnam style got to do with Father and Child Dialogue in the Dark? You would know if you had signed up for the Fathers@School Dialogue event on Saturday 21 Oct 2017. Or you can ask Ezekiel Tan (S3C).
Following overwhelming response in the Father-Child Bowling event in May 2017, two fathers from GESS PTA (Mr. Richard Tan and Mr. You Dunhua) decided to organise another activity to create more opportunities for fathers to bond with their child. 11 fathers got together with their child to experience what it would be like if the world had gone pitch black. Chloe Keasberry (S1C) and Cheuk King Hang (S1E) were eager to find out what that would be like. Mr. Narayanan Ganesan was as enthusiastic as his son, G Vishnu (S2E) , and was game enough to draw blindfolded to experience how a visually impaired artist operate.
Spending almost an hour in darkness has increased both father and child's awareness of the marginalised people in our community. Ordering food, eating a meal, activities we do daily with little thought became major topics of conversations when one of our senses are missing. We hope fathers will continue to converse more and get involved in their children's lives as their children look to them as role models.
