Married SARAH BOWRA (parents JAMES BOWRA and ANNE POCOCK) on 13 October 1845 in Sevenoaks, Kent. 

b.  16 January 1794 in Sevenoaks, Kent;

d. 28 June 1877, Nelson (Halifax Street).

THOMAS WOOD:

Marriage Certificate:  'THOMAS Wood, full age, bachelor, occupation Cordwainer, from Riverhead, Sevenoaks, father - THOMAS WOOD, laborer.  SARAH CARPENTER, full age, widow, occupation hawker, from Riverhead, father - JAMES BOWRA, hawker.  In the presence of William Avis and Henryetter Wood'.  Sarah did not sign the marriage certificate, but placed an 'X'.

Death Certificate: Ref - 1874/737.     Occupation:  Shoemaker.  Cause of Death:  Natural Decay.  70 years old.

He is buried in Nelson (Wakapuaka Cemetery).  Date of Interment: 11 August 1874.  Cemetery Block: 02, Plot #1 008.  Buried in the same plot as Albert Joseph Wood (relationship unknown).  Reference WKBP02008.

SARAH BOWRA:

SARAH was Christened on the 5 February 1794.  SARAH had been married before to WILLIAM CARPENTER on 21 October 1816 in Sevenoaks, Parish Church, Kent.   Both WILLIAM and SARAH signed the marriage certificate with their mark 'X'.  Their marriage was witnessed by JAMES BOWRA.  She was a widow when she married THOMAS.  

A death certificate has been sourced for a 'William Carpenter' in Tonbridge.  He died 23 October 1837 in Tonbridge.  He had been a Cooper.  Frances Carpenter was the informant.  This may/may not be the correct William. 

Death Certificate:  Ref - 1877/565.  Aged 83.  Cause of Death: Old Age.  Name of Mother or Father: Unknown.  In New Zealand for 16 years.  1 male child living.  Signed by 'J Wood, Warehouseman'.

She is buried in the same cemetery as her husband, Cemetery Block: 02, Plot #1 007.  Date of Interment: 1 July 1877.  Reference WKBP02007.

Headstone Transcription: "In loving memory of THOMAS Wood died August 9th 1874.  Aged 70 years.  Also of SARAH, beloved wife of the above died June 29th 1877 aged 83 years".

 THOMAS and SARAH WOOD emigrated to New Zealand in June/November 1860, occupation 'Shoe Maker'.

The Parish Marriage Register for Sevenoaks dated 13 October 1845 shows Thomas Wood, Cordwainer, Riverhead, father Thomas Wood, Labourer; married Sarah Carpenter, widow, Riverhead, father James Bowra, Hawker.

i   JOSEPH WOOD, b. 23 October 1837 Sevenoaks, Kent, England; d. 24 September 1924, Nelson (Halifax Street); married LUCY WITNEY on the 14 April 1874, in the Residence of George Witney, Vanguard Street North, Nelson.

ii   HENRIETTA WOOD, b. 30 May 1830 in Sevenoaks, Kent, England. 

iii  THOMAS WOOD, b. 30 May 1830 in Sevenoaks, Kent, England; d. 15 November 1843 at Dunton Green, Parish of Otford, Kent, England.  His father was Thomas Wood, Cordwainer.  Sarah Wood signed the death certificate with a 'X'.  He died of disease of the brain.
