DANIEL WITNEY

Death Certificate: DANIEL was 67 when he died, and his occupation had been a gardener.  He died of bronchitis.  William Rolfe was present at the death.

As confirmed by the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle, most of the papers of William IV were destroyed by his executors, and as he worked for the royal family, little documentation on either DANIEL or GEORGE will have remained.  There are a couple of papers that talk briefly about Daniel, but none were found about George.  The first document on Daniel is dated 1842 and records that he had been employed for 20 years in Frogmore Garden, he was aged 44, a widower with 5 children, two of them still dependent on him, and that he was very industrious.  The second, dated 1861, records thaht he is aged 64, has been in royal service for 38 years and is no longer able bodied.
