Married BEATRICE (TRIXIE) BLACK (parents JOHN P BLACK and ELIZA MARIA FOWLER) on the 6 February 1907, Baptist Church, Bridge Street, Nelson;

b. 17 November 1884, Collingwood Street, Nelson;

d. 16 September 1946, 4 Scotland Street, Nelson.

ERNEST ALFRED WOOD:

Birth Certificate: Ref - 1878/1401. Fathers Occupation: Warehouseman. Fathers Age: 40 years. Fathers Birth Place: Riverhead, Kent, England. Mothers Age: 32 and she was born in London.

Marriage Certificate: Ref - 1907/1893. ERNEST was a Grocer, 28 and living in Nelson (Halifax Street) when they were married, BEATRICE was performing 'domestic duties', 22 and living in Wakapuaka. JOSEPH WOOD had the occupation as a Grocer, while JOHN BLACK had the occupation of an Orchardist..

Death Certificate: Ref - 1955/5362. Occupation: Retired Master Grocer. Cause of Death: Right hyernephroma (suffered for 3 years). Childrens ages when he died: M - 44, 39, 35, F - 47. His father was also listed as a master grocer. He was 77 when he died.

He is buried in the Wakapuaka Cemetery (Nelson), Block 19, Plot #1 067 (reference WKNG19067). Interred on the 19 November 1955.

Will: A Probate and Will are available from the Website Owner upon request. The probate value was £22,000. The affidavit of death was given by Kenneth Douglas Wood. Kenneth Wood and Arthur Gould Rutland were the Advisory Trustee's of the will. The whole of his estate was payable between Phyllis Myra Rutland, Kenneth Douglas Wood, Alan Campbell Wood and Geoffrey Cameron Wood.

BEATRICE BLACK:

Birth Certificate: Ref - 1885/505. Her father (JOHN P BLACK) was 39 when she was born, and a draper. Her mother ELIZA was 31 when BEATRICE was born.

Death Certificate: Ref - 1946/3247. Cause of Death: Myocardial degredation (suffered for 6 months). Childrens ages when she died: M - 35, 31, 27, F - 39. She was 61 when she died. Her mothers name is listed as 'Maria Black'. Her fathers occupation was listed as Draper.

She is buried in the Wakapuaka Cemetery (Nelson), Block 19, Plot #1 066 (reference WKNG19066). Interred on the 17 September 1946.

Headstone Transcriptions: "In loving memory of BEATRICE (Trixie) beloved wife of Ernest A WOOD, died 16th September 1946. Aged 61 years. Much loved and sadly missed. Also her beloved husband ERNEST ALFRED WOOD died 27th November 1955. Aged 77 years. He fought a good fight."

Will: A Probate and Will are available from the Website Owner upon request. The affidavit of death was given by Ernest Alfred Wood. An affidavit on the execution and knowledge of the contents of the Will was given by Helen Isabel Beatson. Probate payable was £1150.17s.5d. Ernest was the executor of the Will. Her jewellery and personal effects and her share of all furniture including the piano and the household efects and and about my home in Scotland Street, Nelson, were bequeathed to her husband. All moneys and other risidue from her estate were to be divided up between Phyllis Rutland, Kenneth Douglas Wood, Allan Campbell Wood and Geoffrey Cameron Wood. She signed the Will with an 'X' as her hands were too swollen by dropsy to write her name. Two nurses were her witnesses.

ii PHYLLIS MYRA WOOD, b. 7 June 1908, Nelson; d. 27 January 1963, Nelson. Married Arthur Gould Rutland, 6 November 1936 in Nelson.

iii KENNETH DOUGLAS WOOD, b. 8 May 1911 (Ref - 1911/2528), Nelson; d. 17 August 1997, Nelson. Buried in Marsden Valley. Cemetery Plot 606 (ashes), reference MVMWA606_A. Address given as 1/61 Neale Avenue, Stoke, Nelson. Date of Interment 25 August 1997. Occupation: Company Director, JP, City Councillor. Mentioned in Dispatches (M.I.D). Married DOROTHY ELSA HAY on 15 Marcy 1937 in Lower Hutt (Ref - 1937/1118).

iv ALLAN 'ACE' CAMPBELL WOOD, b. 24 August 1916 (Ref - 1916/6446, Nelson; d. 1 March 1964 (Ref - 1964/1048), Nelson. Buried in Marsden Valley. Cemetery Block 08A, Plot #1 034 (reference MV08A034). Date of Interment 3 March 1964. Occupation: Orchardist, DCM. Married YOLANDE NATHALIE BITOSSI on 29 January 1944 in Kelburn (Ref - 1944/1041.

from Memories of BEATRICE BLACK by her Grand Daughter:

Was known for her beauty and was an artist. She was a very tolerant and patient mother, but no disciplinarian so people would put breakables away when they visited! She was a workaholic and bottled and pickled, gardened and sewed clothes for the poor. Lived in 4 Scotland Street, Nelson.
