COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students will learn advanced techniques for digital drawing, painting, coloring, compositing and effects for print, digital and alternative delivery systems.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

The student will be able to:

1.Analyze digital media’s impact on various media production, and distribution systems and associated copyright issues.

2.Apply digital imaging to their major area of study.

3.Understand the benefits of utilizing digital drawing tablets (Digital Illustration and Animation students will be required to use them).

4.Utilize and understand the benefits of using extended monitors.

5.Create a contemporary portrait using, Flash or Illustrator drawing tools, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.

6.Create; using Flash or Illustrator, an iconographic series of images based on a common theme, which should include manipulated type.

7.Create; using Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Painter, sophisticated surface textures and/or patterns applied to a wall treatment, textile or object.

8.Create an environment with mood, strong lighting and the illusion of space, using compositing and/or painting techniques available in Photoshop and/or Painter, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.

9.Prepare and produce images for output in an alternative process that can include but is not limited to laser etching, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, rubber stamp or lasertran.

10.Discuss, debate, and ideate digital imaging works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.
