COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students will apply digital character and environment design to develop concepts for film, games, animation or physical products.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

The student will be able to:

1.Create digital concept illustration for film, game, animation or manufactured/printed products (including toys and retail merchandise).

2.Research and produce character and production design in the current industry standard formats, including but not limited to character sketch, character model sheets, environment, scene renderings, written story/concept premises, character biographies or product illustrations/mock-ups.

3.Use a range of digital reference tools that could include but is not limited to specialized software like Poser and SketchUp as well as digital photography and stock art.

4.Recognize the specialized capabilities of Photoshop, Painter and/or Flash (or other applications) and be able to choose the software that best fits their project requirements.

5.Consider the employment of extended monitors and digital drawing tablets with a requirement for Digital Illustration and Animation students to use both.

6.Pitch concepts in an oral, written and digital presentation format that is consistent with their chosen genre.

7.Discuss, debate, and ideate character and production design works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.
