CURRICULUM REVISIONS
PROGRAM PLAN CHANGES
The primary change, combining 5 focuses into 1 is driven by an administration request to decrease complexity, reduce specialization, provide more cross-disciplinary classroom experiences and improve the average per-course enrollment as well as better meet the criteria for program design as required by NASAD. For a look at the new program plan go to this page:
https://sites.google.com/site/dmadvising/dm-advising
Other program plan changes are driven by the following
• A recent and extensive program self-review that relied heavily on industry in-put.
• A consolidated foundation/introductory set of digital imaging classes (from 3 to 2).
• A desire for the Design and Illustration DM majors to share more courses.
• The addition of more independent thesis work for the Design focused students.
• The addition of electives within the ‘In The Major’ courses will allow some flexibility in the degree to which students can specialize or generalize and will create a more even distribution of students throughout the DM course sections. Also, underperforming classes will be fleshed out through lack of enrollment. There is precedence in other accredited schools for this type of program plan.
• The desire by the game, advertising, animation and film industries to hire and contract illustrators that can create within an all-digital work flow. The current Digital Illustration focus (half traditional/half digital) is currently lagging the other four focuses in these specific areas of alumni employment success.
COURSE DESCRIPTION CHANGES:
All current course descriptions can be found here:
https://sites.google.com/site/dmadvising/coursedescriptions
Every course description has been updated for one or more of the following reasons:
• An attempt to create less confusing course names.
• Updated course description language to the ‘Outcome Based’ standard.
• The use of a common language and structure across all of our course descriptions.
• The addition of a reference to the on-line software requirements on each course description.
• Update to the supplemental materials: kendallweblab.com
• Prerequisites that will make it easier for students to take DM courses as electives.
• Prerequisites that will make it easier for transfer students to enroll in the DM Core courses.
• Minor course content updates to stay current with industry.
