Digital Imaging I

DIGITAL IMAGING I

KCDM 241

PREREQUISITES: none

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students will be introduced to digital drawing, coloring, compositing and image manipulation techniques for both print and digital delivery systems.

COURSE OUTCOMES:

The student will be able to:

1.Recognize digital media’s impact on various media production, and distribution systems and associated copyright issues.

2.Recognize the applications of vector and bitmap digital imaging as it relates to their major area of study.

3.Calibrate displays, set up software color management and calculate image resolution for both print and digital delivery systems.

4.Devise and execute a plan for backing up and archiving data.

5.Create an iconographic image, using Illustrator, that integrates and manipulates type together with an image(s) for web output.

6.Create the illusion of 3 dimensional space, using Illustrator, by manipulating color, contrast, and perspective, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.

7.Using Photoshop, scan or photograph traditional media images, then set resolution, sharpen and color match to the original, for web output.

8.Manipulate multiple images; using Photoshop compositing techniques, to create a digital collage, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.

9.Manipulate images using Photoshop filters and/or other effects (such as texture overlay and layer effects) to reinforce a visual concept, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.

10.Discuss, debate, and ideate digital imaging works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.
