HADITH OF THE DAY
ZIHAR
Narrated by Ibn Abbas
If someone says to his wife, "You are unlawful to me (Zihar)." he must make an expiation (for his oath). Ibn Abbas added: There is for you in Allah's Messenger (Peace & Blessings of Allah upon Him), an excellent example to follow.
Note: A Zihar may be expiated in 3 ways -
1 - By the emancipation of a slave,
2 - If the man cannot afford to do that, he should keep fast for 2 months successively and
3 - If he is too ill or too weak to fast, then he must give 2 meals to 60 poor people on a single day, or alternatively 1 poor person can be given 2 meals for 60 days.
