VIRTUES OF QURBANI
It is Narrated by Ayesha (R.A) that Rasulullah (Peace & Blessings of Allah upon Him) said, 'There is Nothing Dearer to Allah during the days of sacrifice than the Sacrificing of Animals'.
- The Sacrificed Animal shall come on the Day of Qiyamah with its horns, hair and hooves (to be weighed in reward). The Sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground.
Therefore Sacrifice with an open and Happy Heart. (Tirmizhi)
PHILOSOPHY AND RULES OF QURBANI
THE COMMAND OF QURBANI
The Command of Qurbani is found both in the Quran and Hadith.
Allah (SWT) says: "And perform Salah for your Sustainer and Sacrifice." (Quran-108:2)
Note: - It is for this reason that Rasulullah (Peace & Blessings of Allah upon Him) used to First perform his Eid Salah and then Slaughter his Animals.
- Rasulullah (Peace & Blessings of Allah upon Him) would then say; "He who has performed our Salah (i.e. in the manner that we perform it) and Slaughtered the Animals like us (i.e. after the Eid Salah), he has indeed correctly discharged his Qurbani" (Bukhari)
Note: Word Qurbani (Sacrificial Slaughter) is derived from the Arabic word Qurban - Lexically, it means an act performed to seek Allah's pleasure.
Note: All acts of worship (including Qurbani), must be carried out with a Spirit of total Submission to Allah, irrespective of their Economic, Social or Political benefits.
IMPORTANT REGULATIONS
- It is better to Slaughter one's own Sacrifice with one's Own Hands.
- Sacrifice is only Waajib (necessary) on one's self and not on behalf of any other member of the family.
- If sacrifice is waajib on a person and the Days of Nahr (sacrifice) pass by and he has failed to sacrifice the animal, then he should give charity to the value of a sheep.
Preferably the Sacrificial meat should be divided into 3 parts.
- 1 part should be kept for the Family
- 1 part for Relatives and Friends
- 1 part for the Poor and Needy
- When slaughtering it is not necessary to read the Niyyat (intention) and dua aloud. If one has made Niyyat in one's Heart, then uttering only Bismillah-Allahu-Akbar before slaughtering is correct. However if one knows the dua, then it is better to read it.
