Organic Forms and Textures

For this assignment, we were to create a creative image that emphasizes organic forms and patterns. For my image, I went onto our screen porch where I found my a basket of pine cones that were collected over the years. It really caught my eye how the snow had brushed over them without completely covering them because it the way it sunk into the cracks of the pinecone's pattern, really made it's unique shape stand out. At first, I cropped this image down a lot hoping it would show more of the texture but it took away from the photo instead of making it better. I like how the closest pinecone is more in focus then the rest of them, yet the ones in the back aren't completely blurred out so there's more texture to the overall photo. This photo is capturing a lot of composition rules (another reason I didn't crop it). It uses sharp focus, selective focus, informal balance, repetition/grouping, and close distance. I reallt think this is a strong image. It's close enough that it almost makes you think for a second. I also think that the image definetely wouldn't be as strong without the snow.
