Creative Lighting

"PARTY GLOW"

For this project, we were to compose a creative image using creative lighting. For my image, I originally had the idea of doing something called "steel wool photography" however, the day I was planning to do it somethin came up so I had to try to be creative by myself. The process to creating this image was pretty simple. I looked around for some glowsticks until I found some packages. I wasn't looking for any specific colors however I was very happy when I saw that we had two different colors. I took two sticks of each color then I found a mirror and tried to mess around with the reflections of the colors for a while. I couldn't find something that I really liked so I looked for a location in my house with darker lighting and a more simple background for less disractions. One of our countertops is black so I placed the mirror on it and layed the glow sticks in a random order on top of it. To get rid of any distrctions from the reflection, I had my dad hover a black jacket over the mirror so it was all black. This came out very cool and the image needed limited editing. I cropped out some of the edges because you could see the frame of the mirror and it took away from the mystery I wanted. I also adjusted the lighting so that the glowsticks were brighter, and the background was darker. This image uses informal balance, repetition and grouping, leading lines, close distance, and selective focus. I'm proud of this image because it really forces you to think, "what is the location?" "where's the reflection coming from?" and, "Are those glow sticks?" I like how simple the process was, yet it created a very in- depth image.
