This is my signature self-portrait. For this project, I had to complete a self-portrait using only my signature. I had to take a picture of my face with a white background. I made sure that this picture had a wide range of value so that I would be able to make the darkness vary, making it more interesting visually. At the end, I added a background (not using my signature.) This background was of mountains.
I started this project by taking the picture that I would use. After this, I printed it and started on the drawing. I used a large piece of drawing paper and I gridded this paper in 3 inch by 3 inch boxes. I had to switch between pencils in the different areas according to the value and I used HB all way to 6B. After doing my shirt and face I did the background. It took a lot of layering my signature to make all the different areas of my face look accurate to the picture.
This was a new experience— I had never done a project using only my signature before. It took a while to get used to but after doing my signature a lot it became more natural. This project shows my strengths as an artist because I was able to recreate the values of the image using only my signature pretty accurately. Although it looks a little off in some areas, I think all the values are pretty accurate. It shows my weaknesses because I had some trouble in a few areas in making the picture look like my real face. I think more practice would fix this. I am happy with my finished product.
