Macro Leaf

This is my Macro Leaf drawing. For this assignment I had to find a leaf in the yard outside the school. With the leaf, I had to create a macro version of it, meaning I had to blow it up on a piece of paper. I used watercolor and color pencil in this project to make the leaf. The orange parts are the veins of the leaf. I tried to recreate the colors as accurately as possible in this project.

To start this project I found four leaves outside that I thought would be interesting to draw. Then I cut them into rectangular pieces and taped them on a piece of paper. After this I chose the leaf I wanted. Next, I got some water color paper and began working on the piece. I used water color first and made the veins of the leaf. It was hard to mix the colors accurately but I feel like I did the best I could. After the veins I did the other areas of the leaf. While working on it, I decided that it would look cool if I used color pencil to fill in some of the areas. So, to finish the piece I used color pencil.

I chose this leaf because of the variety of colors in it. It ranged from red to yellow to green to brown. I felt like it embodied all the fall colors in one leaf. I chose to use a medium size canvas because a small one wouldn't have captured all the details as well as I wanted. If I had to go back, I think I would've mixed the colors better and payed more attention to detail. In some areas of the piece it is blotchy which I don't like. Overall though, I feel like I was successful in getting the whole page to look pretty close to the image of the actual leaf. I am content with my final project.
