Flag Project

Shown above is my flag project, where I had to take the elements of the flag of the United States and create a new flag. The main parts of the American flag are the stripes, stars, and colors (red, white, and blue.) I decided to use all of these in the new flag that I created. I decided to make stripes of alternating colors, with a star in the middle. Inside the star, there are 50 stars, symbolizing the 50 states in America. There are four stripes of each color to symbolize the four corners of the united states. I used color pencil and graphite to make this drawing.

Initially, I had to determine the main parts of the American flag. After I did that I was able to begin work on my own flag. I thought it would be a good idea to make the stars, the focal point of the drawing, right in the middle. To begin the drawing process, I got a light pencil and sketched out the stars and stripes. I probably should have used a template for the stars, but I didn't have one on me at the time. After this I began drawing in the colored pencil in the stripes. After the stripes, I outlined the stars in blue and filled in three of them in red. I also made a red stripe and two blue stripes in the big star. I also outlined the big star in red.

I chose this design of the flag because I wanted the stars (that represent the states) in the middle as the point of focus. I put them in the center and in a big star symbolizing how the country cannot be itseld without each and every one of these states. I believe my design symbolizes unity within the country and all of the states. I think that if I were to start over, I would draw the lines with more precision and burnish the colored pencil better, since I had to redo the stripes. I would also use a template for the stars. I think I did a good job of putting meaning into my design and I am content with my final product.
