Selective Color

Artist Statement:

For this assignment, we had to take photos and choose out 5 favorites and turn them into a selective color portrait using Photoshop. The whole point of this project was to make the 1st layer black and white, then use a tool to select colors to literally make a selective color portrait. For these photos, I could have taken better ones to represent the selective color. While editing these photos, I tried to pick the right amount of color and what would look most appealing. For this assignment, I felt some of the selective colors didn't compliment them as they should have, for example, the self-portrait. The grey and a bit of the orginal background clash in a way that isn't very pleasing. The reason I made some decisions on what I did to achieve the final products were to re-do afew of them if they didn't look correct or what I personally liked. Something I feel that could have been different were some of the portraits. I think they could have been more appealing and interesting with the select color if they were totally different images. Some things I struggled with were was the editing process, it was a bit difficult to figure out but after playing around with the video tutorial and reading the written directions, I was able to figure it out on my own. My favorite parts of this project was to select the colors that I wanted to show through. I felt as it made the image very interesting in the finished product of each image. In my opinion, I do feel that these images show how selective color can make a difference from the non-edited version.
