The purpose of this project was to give an idea of the skill level we had going into the class, and to give insight into our improvement once we reached the end of the year. We were asked to do a self portrait, a perspective drawing, and a still life. As for elements and principles I mostly used line, as it was what I was used to drawing with.
I used a pencil and paper for all three drawings, and I did all of them in more or less one sitting. For the perspective, I did a drawing looking down from the top of my stairs. For the still life, I drew an old camera. For the self portrait I propped up a mirror and tried not to move around too much.
The finals products, at the time, were drawn to the best of my ability. I did a decent job on all of them, but had no rules/guiding principles to go by. This resulted in my face being disproportionate (I didn't graph the paper), and I cartoonized it quite a bit. My eyes were too big and the drawing was not visually interesting. The staircase drawing was decent, especially given the fact that it was a weird perspective to draw. However, the size of things became wonky and confusing, and the whole drawing was just... off. For the still life I chose something overly complicated and hard to keep track of, and I ended up messing up the placement of things within all of the overlapping metal pieces.
