Time Capsule Drawings

Time capsule drawings are done at the beginning of all art classes as a pre-assessment of our skills in art. They aren’t graded in terms of skill, and are instead an to be used to show your growth when you look at them at the end of the year. We had four assigned, a still life of an object we use a lot, a perspective of a hallway, a self portrait of a specific part of our face, and a drawing of our hand in an interesting position.

For the still life I drew a skull using charcoal and ink. I chose it because I use my head a lot, and a skull is a head. Look, I had one available and I bent the rule so that I could draw it, okay? My hand was in a relaxed position and was done with pen and colored pencil. I used line and color to to show value and make the piece more interesting to look at. Graphite was used for my self portrait, which I did focusing on my hair/cheek. Finally, I used pencil to do my perspective drawing, which was the only hallway in my house.

I tried to make sure that I made an interesting composition for all but one of these drawings, because that is something I struggle with. I did not create a good composition for the self portrait, but that one was also not done on drawing paper and was made in a much shorter time frame than the rest. I suppose that is my own fault though.
