This was my third project working within my concentration of anatomy. After adding words and google eyes and generally very loosely following actual anatomy, I decided to add yet another twist to my project this time (although this time it would be planned ahead). I made another brain, and filled it with split peas so it could be an anatomical representation of a “pea brain”.
I started by making two pinch pots of slightly different sizes (since the front part of the brain is a different shape than the back of the brain). I then attached them using scratching and water, then smoothed the lines between them. I spent a couple of class periods and time during my study halls to make the interconnected lumpy patterns of the brain. This gave be a chance to incorporate my favorite of the elements and principles: line. I used a sculpt tool instead of a scratchy tool because it had the rounded end, which made the lines able to be deep but not so narrow and rough as they would have been with a sharp tool.
This is my strongest project of the semester in terms of quality, but I still want to make something more impressive in my next project. If I did this project again I would try to glaze the project, that way it would withstand water and instead of doing split peas I could fill it with dirt and plant a pea plant.
