Stars and Stripes Project

The “Stars and Stripes” project is a design that incorporates the American flag (stars and stripes). My project uses fine point pens (red and blue) in line patterns to show and give a brief description of four revolutionary winners of this year’s midterm elections. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Sharice Davids, and Kate Brown. I chose these four women because I find them a beacon of hope in the current political turmoil, and reminders of what I like about America. I put the people and their descriptions (the descriptions are meant to look like podiums) in the foreground, and in the background I put an American flag.

Considering that my materials were fine point pen, I did a good job using them to create value with the lines that I used for shading. My technique is strong with the lines all fitting together in a pattern. I had a good composition, the only space not utilized is the top part of the paper where I left it blank.

If I were to revisit this project, I would only change a couple of things to better reflect the idea I had in my head. First, I would put a quote in the blank part at the top, with letters being in both red and blue to foil the unified blue of the people and red of the letters. I would also plan the placement of the descriptions more, because The one for Sharice had to be moved behind her which is weird because for all of the others it was in front of them.
