Sustained Investigation #12

This is the second and final update to my zine about stressful repetitive thoughts and being unable to sleep. It follows the theme of the first section. I kept up with the aesthetics of bright colors and childish blocky drawings. I pulled in personal experiences to my pages, and paid close attention to making very symmetrical compositions.

I brought in more readable text in this update, since in the previous critique a lot of people said that they couldn't read it. The compositions still focus a lot of contrasting colors, and using very rough and blocky markmarking/colorblocking to convey a feeling of chaos and disorganization. I not only used contrasting colors within the pages, I also alternated a a lot between red and blue page to page.

I think that being able to receive a critique in the middle of working on the project is an advantage when it comes to making zines. Although I think that the concept of trying to make childish aesthetics works well within my inquiry question, I also think that the way I executed it in this zine made it come off much more as a lack of effort than it did an artistic choice. That being said, I think it really helped me to be able to think about the simple elements of composition like color and symmetry, since a lot of times I start with detail but I lack a larger structure. I think that this is a really important jumping off point for employing the same ideas on a larger and more detailed scale.
