This project surrounded all of the reasons that people can’t sleep at night, which is meant to be half comedic and half serious, with reasons ranging from “a fly in the room” to “failing math”. Surface level it doesn’t seem like a largely serious issue, but in conversation with a large portion of my friend group, most of them always come to school with only four hours of sleep. I made this zine with watercolor paper and mixed media (acrylic paint, watercolor, and chalk pastel). This is my smallest zine so far.
I focused a lot on using color in this zine. I kept with the theme from the climate change zine where I used bright contrasting colors to convey my inquiry about comedy and tragedy. I used paint and pastels to get a high color content, and because I didn’t to any detailed line work this time.
I tried very hard to push my concentration in this project, which I did a pretty good job of. There is no white space and there is a decent amount of value. After completing this project I have decided to work on a bigger scale, completing one page at a time.
