Macro Leaf Project

The purpose of this project was to do a close up creation of a leaf (or some other object found outside) that showed an ability to replicate small details of an object. For my project I chose to use a square cut out of a red maple leaf, and use pen to recreate in on a macro scale. I used a fine tip pen to get the details of all of the veins, and my most specific focus, the small rectangular-ish fibers that make up the flesh of the leaf. After that I went in with red and brown watercolor shades. It was a little bit washed out, and after receiving feedback telling me to make the stem more visible, I went in with more watercolor, and felt tip brush markers, to make the color bolder.

I can conclude that although you can see the details of the veins and the fibers, the colors don’t match the leaf that I cut out. I used line very well in this project, but my color use is iffy. The overall composition is nice, and for once the I actually left a border, which I actually think makes the composition stronger, as it pulls the eyes to the reds of the actual work.
