Paper Reflection Sculpture

This sculpture is made of paper and tape. It portrays a headless figure surrounded by piles of paper. Their pose is meant to show how overwhelmed and lost within their work, and they have almost collapsed on the floor. This project was based off a word that describes our first semester, and I chose overwhelmed because I took on a lot of high level classes and was very stressed by the workload, even in classes I enjoyed.

I made this sculpture my curling paper into sections (upper arm, lower arm, calf, thigh, torso, etc) and then assembled them with tape. I used tape rolls to put space between pages, which made the papers stack taller

The final project has a clear form, but a very rough appearance. The tape is all on the outside. On the one hand, I like it, because we were only given one class to work on our first sculpture, so it matches the tone of the work to look slightly messed up. On the other hand, I wish it looked cleaner than it did.
