Color Theory

This project was to introduce us to color theory. To know the difference between shades and tints, to know about contrast and other elements of the color wheel. To do this we were given two assignments. The first was to create two color value scales, and the second to create our own 84-color wheel; both of these tasks was to show our knowledge of color mixing. For this we used the element color.

The color value scales were made by starting with a base color, and adding black and white to said base color incrementally, creating tints and shades of the color. The 84-color wheel was done by mixing all primary and secondary colors, and then mixing 4 tints and 4 shades for all of them. I decided to do a Greek Goddess-looking woman.

The first part of this project wasn't too hard. The color wheels were a little bit time consuming, and we weren't given a lot of class time to do them. Due to this, they weren't perfect, but they still showed understanding of the standard (plus they were only a formative). The color wheel, however, was a slow and tedious production. It was worked on in class, at home, and during advisory. It was difficult to mix a lot of the colors so that you could see the difference between all of them. Although the project was hard, I am happy with the results and I'm proud to have put so much effort into something.
