Three Material Value Drawing

This assignment was to create a drawing out of three materials (ink, graphite, charcoal) to convey our understanding of value. We had to work off of a picture that we had taken, and I decided to use a picture of my friend Michael (looking displeased I was taking a picture of him) I had taken over the summer while we were at Peaks Island.

The piece was an assessment of value, which is the element I focused on the most. The value drawing originally had either very dark or very light colors, so I tried to even it out by going over many of the lightest areas with watered-down ink. I tried my best to stay true to the original photo to keep it realistic, but the face ended up a little bit distorted.

I think I did a good job on the overall values of the drawing, however I think that I could have made the face a little more proportional. If I had a bit more time the background would have looked much better; I think it ended up coming off a little bit confusing as to what he's in front of (it was supposed to be a rocky beach).
