For this assignment stools were arranged in the center of the room. The class was told to draw the negative space between the stacked stools, which resulted in a series of boxes which created the shape of the subject. We then had to fill the boxes in any way that we wanted. I decided to turn the boxes into a comic book, which I used to tell a short story about a cat exploring the forest. To do this I used a sharpie for the negative space and a small black pen for the illustrations.
I chose to tell a story about a cat mostly just because I like cats, and I used the pen because I have experience with it, so using it made me feel comfortable. The main element I used was line. I think I did a good job capturing the movement of the cat as well.
The story is about a cat who is exploring the forest, but gets caught in a rainstorm, so he searches for shelter to wait out the storm. I chose to do this because I like drawing cats, and it sort of relates to the Warrior Cat series, which was a huge part of my childhood (I had a serious obsession with those books). My favorite part of the piece is the box where I drew the cat's paws, mostly just because cat toes are adorable. I think the last few frames feel a little rushed, so I wish I spent more time on them. It's also kind of hard to tell what order the story goes in, but other than those two things I really like this piece.
