Google Doodle

I made this project to submit to this year's Doodle for Google prompt "how do you show kindness?". The very first thing that came to my head was how much I enjoy baking with friends, and how heartfelt that taking the time to make something is. I took a lot of time to try considering how to make the letters creatively instead of just following the letter template given. I settled on making the project digitally, since I haven't worked digitally in a long time, and it allowed me to resize the letters much more easily than traditional art would have.

I started by sketching out the people and the shapes of everything on the counter. I focused on having a slightly bright but overall realistic color palette. I put a lot of thought into what to make the letters out of. I started with the flour as the O's because it spreads out in very round shapes on the counter. Then came the L, which was an easy shape to convert into a kitchen item. For the first G I made into a pie, and the second G I thought about the old wives tale of throwing apple peels to see what the first letter of your future spouse's name. The E was the hardest, and what I chose to represent it ended up being a mixing bowl.

I think that I did I good job with making the lettering creatively and in representing the prompt well. I think that I used a strong color palette. If I were to go back and change something I would try to push the values (especially in the clothing) and adding in more to the background to make it match with the details of the foreground.
