Parallel to the seafront, one road back, is St James's Street, the main route from Red Brighton Blue into the city centre, where you'll find all the action. Here you'll find various cafes, shops, restaurants, bars, and supermarkets, pharmacies, etc. Pretty much everything you could need, within 5 minutes walk from us.
You'll pass St Mary's Church at the traffic lights at the top of St James's, which often has interesting local craft fairs at the weekend, and occasional concerts and events in the evenings, many of which are free. Check their notice board as you're passing or website for details.
St James's Street has quite a mixed reputation and over the years has gone through it's ups and downs, having it's fair share of interesting, vibrant Brighton life, but also being a bit of a magnet for homelessness and begging. Enjoy, but as in any big city, please keep your wits about you. If you are asked for money, then please feel free to politely say "Sorry, no" as they will have most likely heard that many times already that day, or to give something, as you see fit, but please don't feel pressured.
