Out past the Marina, the seafront becomes wild & rugged and is called the Undercliff Walk. The promenade runs from the Marina to Rottingdean, a pretty little seaside village, which is well worth a visit with it's chocolate box cottages, village duck pond and the beautiful walled Kipling Gardens. After Rottingdean, the Undercliff Walk continues on as far as Saltdean with it's wonderful newly restored Lido (open Easter to September). It takes approximately an hour to walk from the Marina to Rottingdean, but there's a lovely old fashioned tea shop on the promenade, about 3/4 of the way there, and then a further 15-20 minutes walk to Saltdean. You can walk both ways, one direction on the promenade by the sea, and the other way up on the clifftops - or alternatively, you can walk one way and catch the bus back - the 12 and 13 run frequently along the seafront.
