Not much to see, the Clock Tower is really just a landmark for the centre of the city, people often 'meet at the clock tower'. Sometimes called the Jubilee Clock Tower, it stands on an important crossroads, with West Street leading down to the sea and Queen Street going in the opposite direction to the Train station. Parallel to the sea front, the road down from the Royal Pavilion is North Street, which changes at the Clock Tower into Western Road, and continues up to the Churchill Shopping Centre and then out onto Hove.
History of the Clock Tower
Built in 1888 in commemoration of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, and sometimes called the Jubilee Clock Tower, the distinctive structure includes some innovative structural features and has became a landmark of the city. Brightonians retain a nostalgic affection for it, even though opinion is sharply divided as to the tower's architectural merit. English Heritage has listed the clock tower at Grade II for its architectural and historical importance.
