Video Note is an integrated video tool that allows users to record video and or audio elements to add to courses using the Brightspace Editor or as an Attachment. Think of it as a quick and easy way to share information using your own voice and tone.
Students can add a Video Note to discussions and assignment dropbox submissions. Review the student guide for more information about student use of Video Note.
Faculty can add a Video Note to discussions, announcements, assignment feedback, supplemental content pages, and calendar items.
The general use of video notes by students and faculty is optional. Required student use of video notes in course activities is determined during a course revision. A course revision is necessary to incorporate student use of video notes into graded and/or required course activities. Individual courses that use video notes in required course activities will provide directions and guidance within the Brightspace course through the course revision process.
Keep your videos brief; 5-10 minutes at the most. The required length will vary by the class activity.
In most cases, being brief is best. There may be other times when something more lengthy is of value in a particular course, but generally, 5 minutes is the suggested maximum length.
Use a headset, stand-alone microphone, or earbuds to increase sound quality.
Video Note does not allow for screen recording. For screen recordings or recordings of presentations for assignments, follow the assignment guidance and instructions. The university provides Kaltura Capture, which is a video tool that offers the option for screen recording.
The use of Video Note is optional and not required unless otherwise stated in individual course activity instructions.
Students should follow any guidance from their instructor and ensure that they are adhering to the Student Code of Conduct with all course participation, including the use of Video Notes.
Faculty and staff must follow the PG IT Acceptable Use Policy and Employee Handbook to guide responsible use of technology.
Video Note is an optional tool faculty can use to add video and/or audio notes to various areas of their course in Brightspace. Faculty can add a Video Note anywhere they have access to the Brightspace Editor (discussions, announcements, assignment feedback, supplemental content pages, and calendar items) and for some tools as an Attachments.
Use a Video Note in the initial faculty post to a discussion thread to further explain the requirements and share other helpful information for students to successfully complete the discussion activity.
Add a Video Note to course announcements to share highlights for the week and other important information.
Incorporate personalized feedback that helps to clarify grading and rubric scoring by including a Video Note with grading feedback on assignments.
Share a Video Note on instructor-created supplemental content pages in the course to clarify and promote the importance of the additional content provided.
Add a Video Note to calendar items to highlight important deadlines or personally invite students to attend seminar.
