Kaltura is available to faculty through their current courses in the LMS under the More Tools menu from any available course home page.
*Permission will need to be granted for the application to access your information in the LMS the first time you access the tool.
Click on Kaltura - Class Gallery to access the permissions prompt.
Select the checkbox Do not ask me again for this application and click the Continue button.
*Note: There is a known issue that occurs when you attempt to initiate a Kaltura session in a course using the "More Tools" --> "Kaltura My Media" path. Doing this will result in an "Access Denied" message. If you receive the "Access Denied" message or want to avoid it, either back out of that page or simply initiate your Kaltura session using the "More Tools" ---> Kaltura Class Gallery" path. Then go to your My Media section using the "More Tools" ---> Kaltura My Media" path. This guide will be updated when this issue has been resolved.
Kaltura Capture requires a software download. After clicking More Tools and selecting one of the Kaltura menu options, a prompt may appear requesting to open the application if it has been downloaded and installed.
Once installed, Kaltura Capture program opens a toolbar providing capture options. Kaltura Capture provides video and audio options. Two screen options are available to allow display options for video content such as a webcam and screen share or presentation.
The Kaltura Capture Library may also display when accessing the Capture tool. The recording tool is accessed from the library by clicking on the New Recording button.
Additional information on using Kaltura Capture is available here.
The Class Gallery area is a Media Gallery that lists all videos that have been published and shared with the specific course the tool is being accessed from. This gallery is specific to and only accessible within that course.
My Media Gallery is an area specific to the instructor accessing the tool. This lists all the videos that have been created and saved by the instructor. The My Media Gallery will follow the instructor in all courses they have access to. Content in the My Media Gallery can be shared with multiple courses.
Faculty may share Kaltura videos with colleagues who have access to Kaltura through the Brightspace LMS. This is accomplished by adding them as a collaborator to the video.
Access the video you wish to share from the My Media page.
Click on the Edit pencil icon to the right of the video in the My Media listing.
On the editing page, select the Collaboration tab and click the “+ Add Collaborator” button.
Enter the email address or name of the colleague you would like to the video. Please note the person must have accessed Kaltura through the Brightspace LMS to initiate their account and be available to be added as a collaborator.
Select the permissions you would like to give the collaborator.
The types of collaborators and their permissions are as follows:
Co-Editors: can edit the entry's details and metadata, trim media, replace media, edit captions, edit chapters, and edit slides. Co-editors cannot delete media or add new co-editors and co-publishers. Co-editors can see the analytics page for the media they co-edit.
Co-Publishers: can publish media to their entitled Categories or Channels. This option must be enabled by your KMS administrator for this tab to display. Group support may be enabled for the Media Collaboration features. When enabled, you can select groups that may be assigned as co-editors/publishers for an entry.
Co-Viewers: are only able to view media and do not have editing or publishing permissions. They are allowed to view unlisted entries.
Once added as a collaborator, the video will be accessible for the person on their My Media page from any Brightspace course.
